For some strange reason I’ve had a fascination with women super heroes over the last few years.  Wonder Woman is my fav (and I’m working on getting the perfect look for it) but another one of my fav’s is Bat Girl.

You see, Bat Girl fights crime and for this girl who grew up with a grandfather who was a police officer, I would always here his stories of fighting crime and now that he’s gone I always look back to the stories he told.  I wanted to be like him growing up and Bat Girl is kind of a female version of a male character who also fights crime.  I grew up watching Law & Order with my grandpa and my mom and to this day my favorite types of shows are crime shows.

The fascination with fighting crime, saving people and being a role model has I guess played a really large influence into why I do what I do.  So, when I have the opportunity to play dress up and sort of play this alter ego, you bet I take a chance at it.  Bat Girl, just like other female superheroes is super sexy, she’s confident and she wants to save the world and based on a little bit of research into the history of this character I discovered that Batman insisted she give up crime-fighting because of her gender.  However, Bat Girl disregards his objections and rightfully so.

The role that men and women have in life have certainly evolved over the years.  Women were typically known to be the home makers but over the last few generations we’ve really seen a shift in the roles of both men and women.  I am a firm believer that we can do anything we put our mind to – regardless of what our gender is and as a woman who is constantly trying to break down barriers and teach women to be their confident selves – I’d like to say that we all embody super hero powers!

So, that is why I have chosen Bat Girl for my Halloween costume this year.  So let’s talk about how this outfit was put together and inspired.

My corset is from Got Curves – they are a new brand I’ve recently started trying.  They are a lingerie company located in Montreal and their selection is extensive and prices are legit super reasonable.  One of the things we as plus size women are weary of when buying clothes, let alone lingerie online is sizing.  So I’m happy to report that sizing is actually pretty bag on.  I ordered a 1x/2x in the corset and it fit – it’s a little larger in the chest area (but that’s only cause I’m not as big as most in that area who are my size.  I might have sized down in this piece but definitely made it work!  The feel was also really nice – I mean who doesn’t want to wear pleather?!?  The back is made of satin and has quite a bit of stretch as well.  It came with straps but I left them of for the purpose of this outfit.  I’m excited to try some more things from Got Curves.  I also have a coupon code for 15% off for you too if you decide to purchase anything – sarahtjourney.

My pants are my new fav tights from Fashion Nova Curve.  They are so versatile and I feel like they’ve become a new staple in my wardrobe!  I ordered a 1x in these bad boys and they are perfect.  They are high wasited which I love because that means not wearing shape wear with them and it means I can dress them with something long on top or something like a body suit and show of my waist line.  Be sure to use my coupon code for these guys too – xoSarahTaylor for 15% off your order
