As a little girl I always wanted to be really girly.  I looked at magazines, saw women on TV and in the movies and wished I could wear the clothes that I saw the women wearing.  I wanted to have my hair and makeup done, be all dolled up all the time.  But, in reality my wardrobe growing up mostly consisted of sweatpants that were barely long enough for these long legs but baggy enough to hide and oversized sweatshirts – usually in black because of course, black is slimming.  Not only was I bigger than the other girls, I was also taller than everyone in my class, including the boys…yes, I was the girl in the middle back row in all my class pictures.

At the age of 12 I was a size 12.  And back then, plus clothes were not cute – they just covered you.  Add on top of it that I hated my body so I usually ended up in the men’s sports clothing section.  So that meant tear away pants, jogging pants, sweatshirts and t-shirts.  Eventually I started wearing slightly cuter casual clothes like LuLu’s and a hoodie and that quickly became my look for dressing every day.  But then on my journey to love me and my body and stop hiding I started to dress a little different.  I learned that I Loved wearing dresses so I wore them all the time but when it has come to cute casual wear I’ve sort of struggled a bit.

Things are different than they were in the plus fashion world from when I was 12.  We have great options to choose from and we can look just as cute as the next girl – regardless of your size.  As I headed out this past weekend for a girls weekend away I was sure to pack a super cute, casual outfit for our Saturday wine tour.  My journey to dressing casual and cute is still on-going but I’m in love with some pieces from SWAK

Say hello to the Faye Top.  I chose this top in Red but it is available in a few other colours as well.  I paired it with the Perfect Cami in white (also from SWAK) and a pair of skinny jeans and tall boots to complete the look.  The material is super soft, comfortable and of course cute.  Wearing colour is sometimes new but I keep stepping outside the black box and I’m loving it!  I also have paired this top with a pair of black dress pants for work.  So it can be worn a few different ways.  To stay warm in the Ontario winter weather, I wore a leather-like jacket (Forever 21) and a red scarf (borrowed from a friend) to complete the whole look.

Life isn’t always about fancy dresses and being all dolled up but wouldn’t it be nice to feel good in casual clothes too?! There’s more to come on this journey of mine to discovering my casual style – because I can still gravitate to that hoodie and LuLu’s, but I’m getting there…

Stay Beautiful,

Now for some pictures
