Growing up I never saw women like me in media, in the gym, in fashion or anywhere really.  I had no where to shop, I had meltdowns in change rooms with my mom when nothing would fit – I was a size 12 at 12 and I’ve been 5’11 with a 36 inch inseam since grade 7.
I also never saw anyone in fitness like me – if I were going to go to the gym I thought I had to get skinny before I even tried, I had to be obsessive about working out and my ‘food plan’ and I had to let people know I was there to loose weight because of all the stares.  When I was 21 I lost 80 lbs in 6 months and I did 3 hours of cardio, 6 days a week and thew up after every workout and I still hated who I was at my lowest weight.
After getting out of an abusive marriage, embarking on the journey to self love, my whole world changed when I learned to love who I was and saw my beauty for the first time in my 30 years on this earth.
When I won Miss Plus Canada and started modelling I knew that my life was not just about my dream of modelling coming true.  I knew it would be the start of something greater and then, out of no where, Fitness by Sarah Taylor was birthed.
A body positive gym where women didn’t have to talk about loosing weight, get on a scale, measure themselves, or any of that. But a place where like minded women would come together, feel good about working out and also talk about matters of the heart to help us live our best lives.
This is the heartbeat of Fitness By Sarah Taylor.  This is our purpose – to help women build their confidence and strength in and out of the gym.
Today, Cityline and Tracy Moore helped share our message by inviting me on to talk about body confidence and showcasing plus size bodies in the fitness industry.  We belong, we deserve to take up space, live our life to the fullest and be happy. Thank you for being inclusive, for showcasing bodies that are not typically showcased in the fitness world.  Also a huge thanks to Tracy P for helping pave the way, using her voice and being an advocate for change.
If you knew me 7 years ago, you would swear you were looking at a different girl – I am proof that when you take baby steps, you focus on healing and love – your world opens up, it changes and life becomes beautiful
Thank you to my amazing models for being right with me and helping spread our message. So proud of each of you – love you oodles.
