After wrapping up Full Figured Fashion week in June I didn’t imagine I’d be headed back to the Big Apple 2 months later.  But….I did!  My girl Tess (be sure to check her out on Facebook and Instagram ) had told me about a boot camp that Liris Crosse puts on and there was one coming up in New York! So, we started making our plans and this past weekend we flew out to NYC and attended Liris’ Life of a Working Model Bootcamp Master Class.  Liris has been deemed the Naomi Campbell of the plus industry and is breaking the mold and setting the bar higher in the industry!  I had the opportunity to meet her for the first time when we both ripped the runway at Full Figured Fashion Week.

Prior to catching my flight, I headed over to JustB salon and had my hair did by the one and only Ben Barkworth.  We’ve been working on lightening and softening my hair colour – 10 years of dying my hair almost black has been tough to do much with it when it comes to colour.  But, Ben has been awesome helping me achieve a softer look!

We arrived in NYC Friday night and headed to our Air B&B – this was our first time using it and it was pretty smooth however we stayed in Harlem and although our apartment was beautiful, I might not stay in Harlem again but it was an experience to say the least.

Saturday morning we got ready and headed to the bootcamp where we were greeted by Liris’ amazing team and surrounded by other beautiful ladies who also wanted to work on their modeling game.

Liris was so candid about her journey, her learnings and providing tips on how to make it as a model.  It was amazing!!  She was so down to earth and relaxed and such a natural.

She also brought in an amazing panel who offered so much insight into the industry in a variety of areas.  They were so open and gave us some great advice, do’s and don’ts and they answered all our questions.  This workshop she brought in:

Steffany Allen – Wardrobe Stylist

Rick D Jones – Photographer

What I took away from this bootcamp was that I am on the right path and I was given some tips and ideas on how to tighten up some of the things I am currently doing, some ideas on new things to try and expand on and I got what I came for….I wanted to attend this boot camp to figure out what my next steps would be when it comes to my modeling and I got that.  The next couple of months I will be working on a few things and taking some specific steps to continue to build my portfolio and model resume.  Stay tuned for what’s to come!

Thank you to Liris and all of her panelists!  The day was so worth the trip to New York and I’m so grateful for taking the time invest in us and share your knowledge and learnings!

Here’s some pictures from our weekend in New York.  The apartment we stayed at reminded me of Sex and the City so Tess did a mini shoot with me – I legit stopped traffic on our street, a few guys got out of their cars – it was rather entertaining.

Stay Beautiful,
