Over the years, women have seen one another as competition – fighting to be recognized, doing whatever it takes to make that happen.  From trying to outshine other women, compete with them, put them down or slander one another.  These thought patterns and actions are out of a place of insecurity and pain. But, I’ve found that along this journey of discovering what it means to be a woman of worth, my circle has gotten smaller but the quality of people in my circle is greater.  I find myself amongst women who want to empower one another, come alongside one another to create beauty and to really just enjoy life, tossing out all old mentalities of competition.  We attract like minded people and I’m thankful for the women (and men) in my circle.

I’d love to share with you today a collaboration that embodies new thinking.  I am honored that I was asked to be part of a new campaign with a collaboration of some amazing women – SexyPlus Clothing, The Stylish Reid and Rue 107.

SexyPlus is the FIRST and ONLY Canadian boutique to offer Rue 107 and their first collection is brought to you by Fashion Blogger (and personal friend) Annika of The Stylish Reid. There was a lot of planning that went in to make this all happen and watching the vision come to life on the day of our shoot was just so much fun!

Leading up to the shoot, each model was given their full looks (along with shoes, accessories, and what our hair and makeup would look like).  For me, pulling looks together like this was new but it was so fun to see a vision come to life.  We were also given some inspiration for the shoot which was a Sex in the City vibe- come on, how fun right?!

On the day of the shoot we met early in the morning to get our makeup done by the talented @millionaremakeup.  There were 3 other models and from the time we met that morning, our day of fun started.  I’ve worked with all of these beautiful women before.  We’ve developed friendships and a bond.  We encourage one another in our journeys in the modeling world and on this day, we were all brought together by one woman who has played a significant role in my modeling journey – Stefanie Augusteijn – owner of SexyPlus Clothing. She collaborated with another dear friend Annika of The Stylish Reid to bring you the first collection, as I mentioned earlier.

Once we were all ready we headed downtown to shoot to meet our photographer for the day – Elliot Parrott Photography (who was amazing to work with and his vision…man, no words).  We shot right at Yonge and Dundas – like legit at the all cross walk.  Every time the all cross walk would turn on – we walked out into the street and he would shoot.  We caused quite a stir on that corner.  I think people thought we were famous because people were taking our picture and videotaping us.  Requests from Russian visitors to Canada asked for a picture stating he finally found some tall, real women in Canada (for the record, all women are real women). It was quite entertaining if you ask me and something I hadn’t even thought about happening while we shot downtown.
We then moved to a slightly quieter area….silly me didn’t even bring a jacket so it was a tad cold but we huddled together to keep warm and shared jackets and anything to keep us warm with each other.
Quite simply, this shoot was a fun day and it was almost like just hanging out with the girls.  Girls who have fun together and have no need to compete, or to step on each other to feel good about themselves.
Now for the pictures!!  Oh man these dresses from Rue 107 are amazing!  Can’t wait to see more of the collection!
