In the past I haven’t been one to feel very sexy. Add on top of that that I grew up in a strict Christian home and being sexy wasn’t really something that was talked about or encouraged so I never really thought about wanting to pursue feeling sexy. To make matters worse, the man I had married didn’t help me feel sexy either – rather he did quite the opposite and put me down a lot, especially when I tried to exude sexiness – don’t worry, he’s my ex-husband now.
Over the past few years as I’ve been on this journey to love me and my body, I’ve had to navigate through what being sexy was and how it looked. Did being sexy mean wearing low cut shirts and super short skirts – in other words did I have to show all my skin to be sexy. Well my mother quickly informed me that I didn’t as I was navigating through this. I had to decide really quickly as I started my modeling career what type of modeling I would do and where my line was because what matters more to me than ‘getting work’ as a model was that I was a good role model to young women, did what I could to help them love who they are as women and of course that includes loving their bodies. And how can I be that if I’m not clothed very often.
My message was more important to me and still is. However, does that mean that I’m not allowed to feel sexy, dress sexy and be sexy, heck no. Did it mean that I had to fit society’s norms and be a size 2 to be sexy? Was I sexy at my heaviest weight? Was I sexy at 50 pound weight loss? Do I need to wait till I’m a certain size to be sexy? The answer is simple.
I am Size Sexy. I am Size Sexy today, yesterday and will be sexy in the future. I am allowed to feel sexy, I am allowed to dress sexy, however I do believe in being classy at the same time. I am a woman of value and of worth after all – a queen if you will.
So, here’s to the girls and women out there who have struggled to see the sexy in them and been on the journey to figure out what it is like I have been. My message to you is to embrace who you are, fall in love with your body but more importantly fall in love with the amazing woman you truly are. If being sexy is one of the attributes you want to exude today – by all means don’t let that number on the scale stop you – it’s just a number.
Thank you to Tierra for my Size Sexy Shirt. A very big thank you as well for always being such an encouragement to not only me but so many other Toronto beauties as we embrace who we are. You are a woman who exudes what it means to be size sexy and you celebrate the women around you. Who you are as a woman, friend, mother, wife, sister, etc stands out and you are a woman to be praised. Thank you for being you!
